|| একটি চৌধুরী পরিবারের কথা || The Marquis of Cornwallis, Knight of the most noble order of Garter, Governor-General in Council, now notifies of all Zaminders, independent Talookdars, and other actual proprietors of land in the provinces of Bengal, Behar and Orissa, that he has been empowered by the Honourable Court of Directors for the affairs of the East India Company, to declare the Jumma, which has been or may be assessed upon their lands under the regulations, above mentioned, fixed for ever. The Governor-General in the Council accordingly declares to the Zaminders, independent Talookdars and other actual proprietors of land, with or on behalf of whom, a Settlement has been completed, that at the expiration of the term of the settlement, no alternation will be made  in the assessment which they have respectively engaged to pay, but that they, and their heirs and lawful successors will be allowed to hold their estates at such assessment for ever. || বলিহার জমিদারবাড়ি ও একটি নরবলি || অমাবস্যার রাতে নরবলি! এটা তারানাথ তান্ত্রিকের গল্প নয়, একটি সত্য ঘটনা - একটি জমিদার বাবু ও একটি স্বর্ণকার পরিবারের কথা – সর্বোপরি একটা সত্যিকারের নরবলির কথা।  চোখের সামনে ঘটনাটি প্রত্যক্ষ করার মতো করে বুঝতে চাইলে, ইংরেজিতে যাকে Visualize বলে, করতে চাইলে একটি অমাবস্যার তমসাচ্ছন্ন রাতে ফিরে যেতে হবে আপনাকে। তবে বিশ/তিরিশ বছর পিছনে গেলে হবে না, আপনাকে পেছাতে হবে প্রায় ১৫০ বছর, অর্থাৎ ১৮৭০/৭১ সালে যেতে হবে আমার সাথে।  ঘটনার স্থান আজকের বলিহার জমিদারবাড়ি, বাংলাদেশের নওগাঁ জেলায় যার অবস্থান। আজকের সময় আপনি জমিদারবাড়ির যত্রতত্র ঘুরতে পারেন, ঝকঝকে সেলফি তুলে সামাজিক যোগাযোগ মাধ্যমে দিতে পারেন। তাই বলে ১৮৭০ সালে ফেরত গিয়ে আপনি ও আমি সাধারণ নাগরিক জুতা পায়ে এ বাড়িতে কিন্তু ঢুকবো না। আরে মশাই, জুতা পায়ে জমিদারবাড়ি ঢুকতে গেলে পেয়াদারা ঠেঙিয়ে ঠ্যাং ভেঙে দেবে। তাই জুতা খুলে আস্তে ধীরে চলুন। একে তো গভীর রাত, তার ওপর আবার অমাবস্যার পূর্ণ তিথি। আকাশে তারার দেখা নেই, তাই অন্ধকার ক্রমেই চুইয়ে পড়ছে গায়ে। দূরে দূরে শিবার দলের ডাক বুকটা গুড়গুড় করে কেঁপে তুলছে। সমস্ত পরিব
